Autistic Personal Aide


Under the direction of a classroom teacher/or school administrator, an ESS Autistic Personal School Aide position was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of autistic students; assisting in implementing plans for instruction;monitoring student behavior; documenting activities and progress; and supporting students' IEP goals. 


Responsibilities

  • Collects ongoing daily data on IEP objectives for the purpose of reviewing with Autism Teacher and ensuring IEP requirements are being met and are adequate for the students' needs. 
  • Maintains instructional materials, daily activity/incident logs and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements. 
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments including both 1 on 1 and embedded in class routines for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.  
  • Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans 
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials as assigned by supervising instructional staff for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. 
  • Observe student behavior and progress, keep notes, and report to classroom teacher and/or other school designee(s) 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 
  • Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs; help with translation and hygienic needs when necessary 
  • Promote a safe and orderly classroom environment; take all reasonable precautions to protect students, facilities, and materials 
  • Assist with bus loading and unloading during arrival and departure of students 
  • Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned by school administration and ESS
  • Understand and adhere to all ESS and school district policies and procedures 


Qualifications

  • NJ Substitute or Teacher Certification
  • Autism and Special Needs Experience Preferred
  • Valid NJ criminal history letter 
  • Negative tuberculosis test obtained within 6 months of initial employment
