Lunch/Intervention Paraprofessional

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for providing assistance to teaching staff by supporting     students. This person’s goal is to provide assistance so that students may best benefit        from academic instruction. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate from high school or GED, preferably supplemented by some college-level training or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

 

GENERAL:

 

  1. Meets established criteria for Highly Qualified status as a paraprofessional
  2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work with a variety of students and adults within the school setting.


REPORT TO: Building principal or designee.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the School Psychologist or designee in accordance with provisions of the applicable policies of the Tuscarora School District.

 

COMPENSATION:

 

Nine (9) month position, work schedule and other conditions of employment in accordance with current wage guidelines and applicable policies.

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Teacher Assistants will provide academic intervention and instructional support as directed by building principal or designee

2.    Assistants will follow structured intervention programs or teacher provided plans as assigned to enhance student’s academic performance

3.    Teaching Assistants may assist in the collection of progress monitoring data as assigned

4.    The assistant shall assume any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee

5.    Follow district standards of legal and ethical conduct

Physical Demands                 Often sitting at desk or standing

                                               Moderate lifting from 15 to 30 pounds

                                               Some carrying - up to 30 pounds

                                               Manual dexterity to use office equipment

 

Sensory Abilities                   Visual acuity to read correspondences, computer screen

Auditory acuity to be able to use telephones and interact with students and other staff

Ability to speak clearly and distinctly

 

Work Environment                Generally, indoors inside school with occasional supervisory duties outdoors

 

Temperament                      Ability to work as a member of a team

Must be courteous and able to effectively communicate with people

Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented

Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS                               

Must obtain an Act 34 Criminal History Background Check, Act 151 Child Abuse History Clearance, Federal Criminal History Record and obtain a physical examination and a valid driver's license. In other respects, the successful candidate must be eligible for employment according to the provisions contained in Section 1209 of the Public School Code of 1949, as amended.
