The School Nurse Assistant is responsible to perform, as permitted by the Certified School Nurse (CSN), selected nursing duties that are within the scope of qualifications for licensed practical nurse or a licensed registered nurse.
Essential Functions
1. Assist the Certified School Nurse (CSN) in facilitating an organizing a system of coordinated care of students.
2. Assists CSN in administering/overseeing the taking of prescribed and over-the-counter medications by students as requested by parents or guardians and in compliance with district procedures, building procedures, and the Nurse Practice Act.
3. Assists CSN in establishing and maintaining up-to-date cumulative health records for all students in the assigned building as directed.
4. Recommend to the CSN and/or principal, for exclusion from school, pupils with suspected contagious infections; coordinate such students’ readmittance to school
5. Assists CSN in preparing statistical reports as requested by the administration
6. Handle cases of illness and injury at school in accordance with school district and building policies and procedures.
7. Provide information to parents and/or physicians following consultation with the CSN or the building administrator.
8. Assist the CSN and building administrator in budget preparation for the health facilities/health program.
9. Assists CSN in planning and conducting activities such as screenings, examinations, and immunizations
10. Assist in the identification and referral of students with special care needs.
11. Assists CSN as a resource person to facilitate learning of positive health and wellness behaviors for students and staff. Speak to classes on health-related topics as directed by the CSN and in the presence of a certified teacher
12. Promotes good safety practices, both within and outside of school buildings. May serve as a member of the Safe School Committee(s).
13. Floating school nurse assistant substitute for all buildings and/or for field trips as needed.
14. All other duties as assigned.

SCOPE AND IMPACT
This position accomplished many of its tasks through standard procedures, but must, at times, utilize problem-solving skills and make decisions in stressful situations. Internal contacts include the principal, the CSN, other Nurse Assistants, support staff, and teachers. External contacts include parents and physicians.
Minimum Requirements
1. Willingness to receive training from the CSN in policies and procedures related to routine activities i.e. dispensing medications, student screenings (height, weight, vision, hearing), dental examinations, physical examinations, etc.
2. Pennsylvania state licensed LPN or RN
3. CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
4. Present a clean, neat and well-groomed appearance
5. Project a confident and friendly attitude in dealings with students, parents and other community members.

The Nurse Assistant receives direct supervision from the principal and the CSN. This person is responsible for the supervision of students
