Substitute Personal Care Assistant


An ESS substitute personal care assistant provides extra support to an individual student with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. This position assumes duties of a personal care nature which will allow the child to participate to the maximum extent in the least restrictive environment.


Substitute personal care assistants are also known as one-to-one aides and paraprofessionals.  


Responsibilities

  • Assist with self-sufficiency training and maintenance of skills for a child with physical disabilities
  • Encourage, support, and educate the student by assisting in the performance of activities of daily living necessary for his/her comfort, well-being, and integrity
  • Assist student in managing and maintaining their environment to meet special physical and psychological needs
  • Help student with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities and arrival and departure from school
  • Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
  • Operate and assist in the use of student's mobility devices
  • Assist student with clothing, grooming, health habits, and bathroom activities as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • PA Department of Education Form 6004: Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification – Act 24
  • PA State Police Criminal History Clearance – Act 34
  • Federal Criminal History Clearance – Act 114
  • Mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training – Act 126
  • Child Abuse Clearance – Act 151
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release – Act 168
  • Tuberculosis Test/Physical
