Substitute Paraprofessional
An ESS substitute paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The substitute paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.
Substitute paraprofessionals are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Attends in-service activities as required/needed.
- Conducts small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher with supervision of students, which may include lifting of students in wheelchairs.
- Assists the teacher with student assessment, grading work and tests, and collecting data on student progress.
- Assists the teacher with routine record keeping.
- Assists the teacher with the preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of displays/bulletin boards, learning centers and manipulatives).
- Locates, operates, and returns needed equipment.
- Assists the teacher with classroom housekeeping.
- Assists the teacher in the ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials.
- Assists the teacher with school-wide supervision, such as loading/unloading buses.
- Assists the teacher with medical procedures and/or physical therapy for students.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
- Works well with administrators, teachers and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- 2 years of higher education beyond high school or passed assessment test
- Holds or could earn a CDL if position requires bus transportation of students
- Communication skills

Pay Range: $15.85/hr. for 7.5 hours plus $2/hr. attendance bonus
