JOB GOAL: To assist with clinic assistant staff for the West Side Schools in Jackson County
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED:
1. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
2. First aid, CPR, and other certifications or willingness to become certified within a designated time frame.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrate basic clerical skills, including filing, record keeping, clinical documentation and report preparation
- Ability to work independently
- Display ability to perform basic math skills
- Word processing, database, spreadsheet, and other basic computer skills.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills
- Display ability to maintain confidentiality as directed by the supervising school nurse
- Ability to be a positive, contributing member of a team
- Operates in a professional office environment
- Routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform tasks involving twisting, reaching, and prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 20+ pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
Working Conditions:
May require occasional travel to schools and other locations within the school district
REPORTS TO:
Lead Nurse and Student Support Services Director
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will attend student IHP, 504, IEP meetings to help establish student's individual healthcare plans.
- Assist clinic staff with students medical needs.
- Contact Lead Regional nurse regarding student health issues and questions as needed.
- Notify school administration or designee immediately in the case of an emergency situation, including any time a call to 911 is made.
- Assist schools during medical emergencies.
- Assist and conduct routine health screenings as directed by the Lead Nurse.
- Help assist with schools emergency response team drills.
- Administer medications and perform necessary health procedures, according to student health needs when coverage needed in clinics.
- Assists with referrals to, school social workers, guidance counselor, school administration, school staff, and community agencies as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies, while maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Perform clerical duties regarding school health services, including:
- Organize, file, and maintain student health information in a confidential manner.
- Documentation of any/all health services provided.
- Maintenance and record of school clinic supply inventory.
- Assist school nurse in the updating and completion of student health records, including, but not limited to: immunizations, emergency cards, and health plans.
