Substitute Special Education Teacher


ESS is seeking multiple Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teachers at Broad Brook Elementary School and East Windsor Middle School in East Windsor, CT for the upcoming 2025/2026 School Year. Special Education Teachers develop and conduct learning programs for preschool and primary students who have learning difficulties or impairment in their physical, sensory, emotional or intellectual abilities. 


Responsibilities

  • Assess the abilities and potential of students requiring a specific program using a variety of tests and other forms of assessments
  • Plan special courses of study to meet the individual needs of students
  • Teach academic subjects and practical self-help skills using different methods and aids to assist in the education and/or rehabilitation process
  • Develop/adapt curriculum to make it relevant for students with disabilities
  • Observe students to evaluate and record their progress and to detect signs of any deterioration of developmental disorder, ill health, or emotional disturbance
  • Work closely with other professionals including teachers, guidance counselors, speech therapists and psychologists
  • Promote health and safety concepts and social interaction with other students
  • Assist students as needed with toileting, feeding, and other personal needs
  • Communicate with guardians regarding students development and education program 
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment
  • Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
  • Perform other duties as directed by school administration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher, with Active CT Teacher Certification
  • Special Education Teaching Certificate not required but preferred
  • CT/FBI Criminal History Clearance
  • Department of Children and Families Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Record Clearance
  • Education Employment Verification – Act 16-67
