Substitute Campus Monitor
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the school principal or designee, monitor campus activities to assure the safety of students, staff, and visitors; ensure student compliance with school and district policies; minimize the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; communicate with school administrators regarding security issues and incidents; and routine inspection and monitoring of facility, grounds, and restrooms. The Campus Monitor is a student support position, integral to helping establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and safe learning environment for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills are required to communicate school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors in ways that promote cooperation; some need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include techniques for observing behaviors and anticipating or predicting potentially harmful actions; methods for managing non-compliance, defusing, and de-escalating conflicts; resolving minor disputes and participating in conflict mediation. Sound judgment and decision-making skills are required.
Knowledge is required to implement procedures, enforce rules, laws and policies, and prepare documentation. Specific knowledge is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including assessing potentially harmful situations.
Ability is required to work with a diversity of individuals. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action, and reach solutions. Ability to identify unsafe behavior and situations; identify drug and alcohol use and/or impairment; act quickly with reasonable judgment; analyze situations and apply inductive and deductive reasoning; understand, carry out, and give verbal and written directions;
and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medical Category II
Performs the following physical demands: significant walking (up to 60% of the shift); standing (up to 35% of shift), lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; stooping; kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Occasional contact with dissatisfied or hostile individuals.
