Substitute Cafeteria Assistant



PURPOSE STATEMENT

The job of Cafeteria Assistant exists for the purpose/s of preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel, as well as maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepares food and beverage items. Arranges food and beverage items for the purpose of serving them to students and staff in an efficient manner. Cleans utensils, equipment, and areas used for storage, food preparation and service, for the purposes of maintaining required sanitary conditions. Collects payments for food items from students and staff (e.g. cash, meal tickets, etc.) Inventories food, condiments and supplies for purposes of ensuring availability of items. Gathers and reports to appropriate personnel information related to food production and service. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills due to changes in the food service industry.

KNOWLEDGE required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include food preparation practices and procedures; food quality standards, sanitation practices and procedures; and mandated health standards.

ABILITY is required to perform basic math; read and interpret instructions, understand written and oral instructions, and maintain required sanitary conditions.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include working under standardized instructions and/or routines; providing information and/or assisting other persons.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: Significant lifting of up to 50 lbs., carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching and handling. Generally, the job requires 40% walking and 60% standing. The job is performed under significant temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.


Experience and Education

  • Job related experience is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Clearances: All clearances required to provide service in a public school district in the State of California.
